  • February 8th, 2005 HKN Cabinet Meeting

    Old Homework

    • Derek
      • Ask Tuttle about lists
      • Send emails about help desk to current members
      • Talk to the Red Cross about service project(s)

      • Talk to initiation people about times, dates, and rooms

    Help Desk

    • Everyone go to your hours
    • Sign up if you haven’t

    Initiation

    • Send out letters by March 21st
    • Tentative dates:
      • Tuesday, March 29 – First meeting – 7:00 (food)
      • Tuesday, April 5 – Second meeting – 7:00
      • Service project happens week of April 9th, maybe?
      • Actual initiation ceremony Sunday, April 17
      • Officer election meeting soon afterwards
    • First meeting is cut-and-dried; here’s the info, now eat pizza
    • Second meeting should be laid-back and sociable – perhaps something fun
    • Initiation will be formal
    • Locations TBA once we get closer to those dates

    Bowling at the MU

    • Wednesday, March 30th 7:00-9:00 PM
    • $230 for two hours, includes bowling and shoes
    • 40 people maximum on lanes
    • Cost split between three groups (SWE/IEEE/HKN)

    Help Desk Signups

    • Mandatory for officers
    • Sign up for one hour a week (or more!) and help people out
    • Signup sheet is in the help desk
    • Emails will be sent to all current members (Derek)
    • Promotions will be done after we get it staffed better

    Initiation

    • Tuttle usually takes care of the list; Derek will ask about that
    • Tentative dates:
      • Apr 7 – First meeting
      • Apr 12 – Second meeting
      • Apr 17 – Actual initiation
      • Times and locations TBA once we get closer to those dates
    • Any conflicts or reasons to change dates? Let Derek know
    • Letters need to get out before Spring Break

    Treasurer notes

    • $10 minimum for reimbursement – must have receipt
    • $1069 in our account, minus an outstanding charge of $124

    Service activity

    • Derek is meeting with the Red Cross soon
    • Any other ideas for initiation service projects are welcome – talk to Derek

    IEEE banquet (?)

    • IEEE puts on a spring banquet for awards, recognitions, etc
    • If HKN wanted to help, that would be swell
    • Coincide with our initiation banquet to save cost?

    Picnic

    • Idea to have a picnic like we’ve done in the past
    • Provide food and drinks to HKN/IEEE members and faculty
    • Join with IEEE

    SWE Bowling (?)

    • SWE is having a social event, bowling at the MU
    • Might invite HKN and IEEE pending interest and finances
    • Date: Wednesday, Feb 23
    • Jen will bring more info next week

    Other activities

    • Bonfire?
    • Movie night at the dollar theater?
    • Downhill skiing? ($17/person to ski, $20 to snowboard, Thursday nights)

    Fundraising

    • Find a way to raise some money this semester?
    • This could be used to offset the costs of activities, officer dinners at initiation, etc.
    • Corporate sponsorship? (Like at the picnic last spring…)
    • Purchasing multimeters or EE lab parts and reselling
    • Anyone want to take the reins on this? Let Derek know

    Meeting time

    • Will be 6:00 every Tuesday in the ALC
